All Things Sleep

Sleep is by far the hardest part of becoming a parent.  No matter how many people try to warn you about how little rest you will get, you truly will not understand how sacred sleep is until you are in the thick of it.  These are some of our go-to items that helped get our baby sleeping through the night at 10 weeks old.  Don’t be fooled – there was a serious sleep regression after that which lead to sleep training…

Newton Baby Bassinet

Newton is known for their breathable mattresses, which are seriously very easy to breathe through.  This gives new parents piece of mind if their newborn rolls onto their belly in their sleep.  Aside from the bassinet they also make a crib mattress, which allows the baby to become familiar with the feeling of the mattress.

Backup sheets are crucial for the bassinet.  Your baby will have a blowout at 3AM, I promise.

These swaddles are handy for wrapping your baby up tight.  The nurses in the hospital will swaddle your baby up super tight and you will not be able to replicate that at home on your own for at least a week.  These are your friend.

This is good for transitioning your baby out of a swaddle and into a sleep sack.  It allows you to gradually start keeping their arms out so they become familiar with a sleep sack and are less dependent on the tightness of a swaddle.  You can start by leaving one arm out during nap time and then transitioning to both arms out.

Any swaddles blankets will do.  These are not only great when you quickly become a pro-swaddler, but they are also useful when going on walks while your baby is in their bassinet to use as a blanket on a warm day to protect their skin.  You just need these.

This sleep sack is the best, I am not sure if we will ever take our kids out of them.  They should make them for adults.

Your baby will likely require white noise when going down (make it louder than you think).  This is not only a great sound machine but the ability to change the color of the light is a game changer for those middle of the night diaper changes.  If you set the light to be red it will keep your pupils dilated and will not strain your eyes.

This is a much sleeker shusher than the clunky orange cylinder one you have probably seen.  That one drives me nuts because you cannot start it with one hand and only runs for 15 or 30 minutes at a time.  This one is small and can hook on your stroller.

This was our baby’s favorite pacifier and unfortunately did not come in the babylist pacifier test set so I would recommend just skipping that and jump straight to this one.

This was a game changer!  Its a microwavable stuffed animal that we would lie in the bassinet a few minutes before trying to put our baby down so it was nice and warm for him.  We got this as a gift and it changed the night time routine instantly.  One thing to note is that they are lavender scented.
